My brother's bike was pretty pathetic, so he adopted my old mtb which was a 2000 Cannondale F1000SL hardtail (with a thudbuster to make life bearable).

Does anyone know anything about Cannondale stems? Are they proprietary ones because of the Headshock geometry? It was a Ebay bike and the steerer tube had been cut shorter then I would have liked when I bought it. It does create some instability due to the fact that we are both 5;10" and it is also hard on the back. I figured that out after I bought the new ride and stopped doing so many endos

Anyhow, I'd like to put an adjustable stem on it so that he can tweak it, but I am not sure if I need to buy something that is Cannondale specific??

Guess I could also just get him some riser bars...but the stem would offer more options.

Never mind. It is a proprietary item. So a $17.00 adjustable won't work.

the cannondale stems will wrap around a OnePointFive steerer tube. the best thing to do is to replace the front fork with something which is a normal size. I have an F700SX which came with a lefty and I put a Manitou Minute on. Best adapter i can recommend to you is the Cane Creek DoubleXC Short. You have to get the short because of the cup insertion depth on the C-dales being more shallow than other 1.5" headtubes.

Thanks. I didn't want it to be a big $$ upgrade. He tools around the neighborhood on it and goes off road a few times a year. I'll probably just get some riser bars for it!
