SORBA Board of Directors Holds Fall Meeting
SORBA’s Board of Directors (http://go.imba.com/site/R?i=rQO_XaT8sY9afZpTR7B_UA..) met on Nov. 22, at the Elachee Nature Center in Gainesville, Georgia. We had a full house, with a record-breaking 23 chapters represented! The meeting began at 8:00 in the morning, with a continental breakfast and coffee, and didn’t break up until after 8:00 in the evening, over pizzas. In between was a full day of speakers, discussions and votes.

Now you can enjoy the great outdoors year round at Reinhardt College (http://go.imba.com/site/R?i=5JtgsjgoysNvDbUl0nQTvg..). Rule Change Proposal for National Parks Anticipated Later This Month
A pending National Park Service (NPS) regulation change (http://go.imba.com/site/R?i=CVxxwRlL66WAI3qIRqt0ng..) will benefit Americans by improving mountain biking experiences in national parks. The new policy would empower park superintendents to manage trails for bicycles, without sacrificing environmental review or public comment opportunities. IMBA anticipates a NPS announcement on the regulation change later this month -- stay tuned to our website for additional news, and to register your comments with the NPS.

Moab Trails Spared From Drilling-Related Threat -- For Now
IMBA applauds mountain bikers who came out in droves to protect iconic Moab rides from being displaced by oil and gas leases (http://go.imba.com/site/R?i=tSa73aqVAc7FTkq4KJGBng..). Public outcry led the BLM to withdraw the vast majority of leases near famous trails like Porcupine Rim, Amasa Back and others. The BLM's decision reflects a growing understanding of recreation as a valuable public lands resource, but it may be a temporary victory because the leases haven’t been permanently closed. Moab advocates, including former IMBA Board President Ashley Korenblatt and others, will try for a lasting solution to this issue while also keeping an eye on remaining open leases near areas like Tusher Canyon.

Paulding SORBA Signs MOU with Paulding County
Paulding SORBA recently signed an MOU agreement (http://go.imba.com/site/R?i=Xlq7BTIUfbdQO92BBQSwtA..) with the Paulding County Parks and Recreation Department to build a Gateway mountain bike trail at Mount Tabor Park in Dallas, Georgia. The chapter has already started clearing the trail, and hopes to have 1.5 miles of trail completed before the end of the year. Once complete, the park will house approximately 8 miles of mountain bike trail.
Appalachian Mountain Bike Club Pitches in for Windrock Fall Festival
The Appalachian Mountain Bike Club helped out with the Windrock Fall Festival, held Nov.18 and 19, outside of Oliver Springs, TN. The festival is primarily a downhill festival, but now features a cross-country ride -- led club president Randy Conner -- on newly built trails.

Tuscaloosa SORBA’s Trails Enriched by Adoption
“I'm not sure who originally suggested our Adopt-A-Trail (http://go.imba.com/site/R?i=kCRhH1Bt3PCDpNBS-WaA-A..) program, but it has been a great success,” says Richard Russell, Tuscaloosa chapter president, “there are about 12 miles of trail at Munny Sokol Park, and the idea came about for individuals or groups to adopt one or more of the 20-plus named trails at Sokol.” The adopters do light trail maintenance, raking and trash pickup.
