How did anyone come across this? The guy embellished a lot of stuff of course but that's mostly how it happened. God did give Sodom a chance on behalf of Lot who bargained if there were 10 righteous people in the city God wouldn't do it. God agreed but none were found besides Lot's family so God torched the place.
