Does anyone know if it is possible to add a cleat to a regular tennis shoe so clipless pedals can be used?
i think that would be tough without adding some type of support...then it would still be ify. I've seen sneakers type shoes sold for cleats though.

The soles of shoes made for use with clipless pedals seem to be much stiffer than the soles of most other athletic type shoes.
First you'd have to carve out a recess for the cleat to sit in. Then you'd have to make the holes for the screws and, as previously mentioned, you'd probably have to add some type of support to stiffen the shoe a bit.
Sounds like a lot of effort... I think I'll just stick to buying them.
nashbar usually has casual shoes with cleats for cheap. regular shoes wouldn't hold up without some sort of serious sole reinforcement.

I saw not long back what was basicly a toe clip that you mounted to your shoe... it had a non adjustable cleat attached to it... think old toe clips that tie to your shoe... the idea was neat but I can't imagine trying to use it...
the best non clip in system i've seen is the power straps (marks got a set sitting in the shop)
i've got a pair of shoes you could try if you are in about a size 13...
