at about the 1.5hr mark i notice that i begin to lose sensation in the franks and beans. my current seay position feels quite comfortable where it is now. obviously it need to be adjusted. does it need to be tilted up/down and moved forward/backward?

forward back is more about KOPS (knee over pedal) although not everyone follows that belief http://www.sheldonbrown.com/kops.html

basic premise is dangle a plum line from the base of the front of the knee with the crank 90* to the ground with the ball of your foot on the pedal and your arse in the saddle where it belongs... saddle moves forward or back to get the plum line in line with the pedals spinal...

I'd try rolling the saddle forward just slightly... if you go to far you may find you get sore hands (pushing you back keeping you from sliding out of the saddle) as with all things bikes small little adjustments make a big difference...

Been looking on the net and it seems like I need to:
1.tilt the nose down a bit and/or
2. increase the distance between seat and handlebar height and/or
3. get a selle smp seat with the center cuf out.

I actually use a level to make sure my road bike seats are dead level. thats what works for me. others say just a bit nosed down, but too much and to end up with numb hands. the bike pants should hold your stuff up out of the way so things dont get bad down there

i bought one of those specialized body geometry saddles (http://www.specialized.com/us/en/bc/SBCEqProduct.jsp?spid=47287&menuItemId=9302&eid=5007) for the off road bike and it's pretty comfortable. i'm gonna swap it to the road bike for next weekend's fenner/wantz ride. 3-4 hours should be a good test. it was $85 with cromo rails and a chic feaux leather cover.
