I ellipticalled for 48 minutes today at max resistance. The computer on the machine says I burnt 1200 calories. I'm not exactly concerned about how accurate it is b/c the workout felt good and I'm sure it was plenty of calories burnt. The elliptical machine is the only piece of workout equipment we have out here offshore. So I have no choice but to like it.
Yes, I know everyone burns calories at different rates but I'd like to hear some examples from others of there calorie burning on the bicycle. Both on-road, off-road, SS, and geared.

I usually burn about 550-650 cal/hr off road and 700-850 cal/hr on-road, depending on intensity. My avg HR on the road is about 5-10 bpm higher than off-road. Max HR is usually about the same on both.
I'm very close to SD in calorie use. I do wonder if my Garmin grabs those calorie numbers out of the air. Higher calorie use riding road bike. Maybe because air drag kicks in at 16MPH. Elliptical is fairly close to biking.

I rode UWF the other day on my geared 29er. The garmin said 1 hr 36 minutes, 12 miles, 2000 calories with avg hr 158, max 172.
Did a 50 on the roadie. 2hr 59 minutes, 4266 calories, avg HR 150, max 168. I must have been goofing off

What kind of elliptical are you using? What program are you using as well?

I think its an Iron Man eliptical and the manual program. I put it on max incline and just go about 50-60rpms.

Not completely sure of the equipment you are using, but if you are entering your weight, age, etc, they can be in the general ball park. Ironman is a Icon product and the HR, calorie count, etc is pretty dependable for fitness equipment. See if there is a "Polar" or "telematry" logo of any kind on the console. If so, you can add a polar chest strap and gain in how reliable the numbers are for your results.

Yes, there is an input for a heart rate monitor. I'll check it out later and see exactly what it is. I haven't been putting the weight, age, and etc... I just jump on & press the manual setting button, put the resistance to wide open, and press the start button.

Adding in weight and age, etc will give you more acurate results if you are worried about it.
