Melanie is desperate to find a consistent riding partner. She's a little too intimidated to ride with all the guys and the opportunities for a ride with just her and me are not frequent enough. The wife/GF rides are a good thought, but last time no one showed up, besides she wants to be on the bike more than once or twice a month. Suggestions?

My buddy steve can't keep up with me, maybe Melanie could ride with him. Though she might go faster than he.

Suggestions?

Ride with your GF more.
One issue is that Mel is a much better rider than most of the women out there. What about her ridding with Bree, she seems like she would be a good fit for Mel.

I'll agree with Nate here. I ride with Steven even though he's not all that fast just to get him out there and riding his bike. He's improving, as will Melanie if you'll ride with her. I will put my gearing into the largest chainring on the front and just shift with the rear a little to make it harder for me to ride when I'm having to slow down or stop and wait for him.

I think you could probably do that once a week on off days when you're not riding with the other guys and she'd enjoy it. I ride with you guys as much as I can but on sundays I'll go out with Steven and poke along. Also by taking Melanie yourself you can help coach her and she'll improve that much faster.

I can easily ride with her once a week (and will), but she wants to ride more and finding a riding partner for her is the best route until she feels like she can ride with the fellas. I remember on the old forum, there was a group of girls that were riding together (I think on Sundays). Does anyone know any of them or if they are registered on this forum?

Dave,
Is your girlfriend able to do the 9 mile loop. If so what kind of time does she have.

I take her on everything but the gorge. We just jump into the bottom half of Bone to bypass the gorge. We usually average anywhere from 7.5 - 8.0 mph, so about an hour for that loop.

I remember the girls your refering to rom the old forum. Tina was one of their names and she was a member of the mere-mortals triathlon training group.

I may be a little faster than your girlfriend but I'm not quick enough to hang with the fast guys on the evening rides. Now that we have some more daylight I'll be out there 2-3 times a week. It would be nice to ride with a group of slower riders. It would also be fun if the slower group would leave first and the faster guys could play catch-up. We could adjust the time gap
from ride to ride to make it kind of a little challenge to see if the fast group could catch the slow group before the end.

That sounds like fun! Kinda like a hare in a hash. Except NO getting naked! Wonder what the time to wait would be, 30min? The guys in the faster group would have to be hauling butt BIG time to catch up. Basically people would get to the top of the chute and then the fast group would start.

I think it would push both groups harder. My last loop time was about 1:06
The end of last year I was able to do a sub hour loop but I have about 10 lbs I need to shed. Plus I hyperextened my knee fighting a guy at work last week and I'm still healing so I'm super slow right now.

Just a drug dealer on Mobile Hwy at Green Street that didnt want to go to jail. Not much of a fight, just extended my knee the wrong way when we went to the ground

It could be a little more difficult than you'd think. greg and I were riding this weekend with a friend of his, Steve, and when we got around to the road between 4 Dogs and the Gorge when we pointed him up the Bone trail since he was tired and didn't want to ride the Gorge. Greg and I continued on to the Gorge and all of Bone thinking we would catch him no problem. I was expecting to catch him at the top of Bone or just into Cambodia (he was riding really, really slow to that point). We rode a fairly decent pace until we got about halfway through Cambodia and still hadn't caught Steve. I really started riding hard then to try to catch him (for two reasons: 1) I wanted to see if I could 2) Steve's first time on the trails and I didn't want him to ride right past the parking area and start Pate trail again). By the time I popped out of the trail, he was just pulling up to the truck. Needless to say, I was shocked at how difficult it was to make that gap up, even though that probably equated to about a 15 minute head start

Yea I think if I had a 10-15 minute headstart it would be interesting.

Did ya ever go for a ride and just think somebody was in front of ya??
Game on!

I read once that every ride with more than one rider is a race. For me And probably alot of you it's my body against my brain.

Lemme know. We'd probably be pushing it to get there at 5:30 on weekdays, but we'll give it a try. Just let me know which days
