Timber Lake riders if you are looking for a new light you really need to consider a Magic Shine. I found out about these lights on the main PORC Chatter part of the forum. Everything said about this $85 light was positive so I took a chance and ordered not one but two.
Thursday, Dec 3 was my first ride with the Magic Shine and I was impressed. One is noticeably brighter than my Nite Rider HID, two really had the woods lit up. The beam was a little tighter than I am use to but I got used to it. The tighter beam seemed to light up more farther down the trail. The flood on the HID gives me more on the side of the trail but that isn’t where I’m riding, at least not on purpose. The color of the light is white as can be with no discoloration. The switch is positive and the light is on immediately and easy to switch between the 5 modes. No having to repeatedly having to push the button trying to get the light to ignite like on my HID.
I ran the batteries for a good 1 1/2 hours last night and they were still going strong at the end. Speaking of the batteries I was amazed at how small the battery pack is. It is about a 3rd of the size of my HID battery. The entire system weighs 9.6oz. It was a noticeable difference on my head, no neck fatigue.
Mounting was easy and will be easy to switch between bikes or helmets. The helmet mount itself is easy to mount the light on but I’m not crazy about the Velcro straps use to mount the mount on the helmet. I finally got them to work after about 10 minutes of messing with them. I will replace them with straps off an old Nite Rider mount.
Like most of the folks on the PORC board I ordered the light from Geo Man and I guess since I ordered two they threw in a free Y cable so I can hook both lights to one battery. The box set comes with light, battery, charger, O rings to attach the light and extension cable. The helmet mount is approximately $10 more. The two light set up with helmet mount was delivered to me for around a $180. That is allot of light for that amount of cash. Now the question is longevity, but at this price even a season or two is worth it since the entire set up is cheaper than the HID replacement bulb $100, Nite Rider battery $140.
By the way, my Magic Shine wasn’t the only one on the trails last night and the other rider also had nothing bad to say. Let me know if you want to see it as I would be happy to show you. Over all initially I am very pleased with my purchase as everyone else seems to be from all that I have heard or read.
