I strongly encourage anyone who can ride Sunday at Blackwater to do so. Carl has worked tirelessly (well actually he probably got tired) to get these trails up and going. They are well trimmed and much easier to follow than before. Go and enjoy. I'm sure a time trial can be held at Blackwater in the future. These trails only need to be ridden. The more riders who know about these trails will only encourage more riders to go. Thanks everyone!
Whats the trail like in comparison with the UWF trail? Terrain and difficulty wise.
the terrain is a lot like uwf but the trail isn't as technical.
I'll try to make it out Sunday. Probably won't make it until later in the day though.

I really enjoy the BW trails. I rode them last week and they are getting better and better. Thanks again to Carl and all his hard work out there.

I rode the trail clockwise today and enjoyed it. The trail is in great shape and the yellow blazes identify the trails very well. If you like the UWF Games Loop then you'll like this trail. The part I like the most is the lack of roots poking out everywhere. That makes the uphills much more enjoyable.
You could ride this place rigid and single speed & have a field day out there. Oh and the 2x12 bridge will hold a 285lb rider w/a 30lb bike no problem. I didn't stop on it or anything but i did go across it without a problem.

North on Munson Hwy to A Right on Red Rock Road ( Between the two Churches ) then you'll pass the Trail on the right and the parking is is down on the left, by the creek.

Sounds like its going to be a good showing this Sunday at 10am. I think if your going to ride this weekend, you owe it to yourself and Carl to go ride Blackwater.:coolness:
the creek is about 3 miles down red rock road. there are 2 wooden bridges there with a parking area. you can't miss it.

Carl, and anyone else who has put in time at BW, good job on laying out these trails. Hopefully all the tires today will be a good start to it being ridden in. If the weather is decent on x-mas eve morning, I'm going to do a loop or two and the legend of Ed B. is supposed to be there too.
it was a great turnout. 11 pairs o' wheels on some of the trail, 9 pairs for the whole loop and 3 pair for the second loop.

Carl and Steve, Thanks so much for the work that has been done out at Blackwater. Now that I have ridden the trails, I can say that I will be making the drive out there more often. The hard part is done, with more bikes riding it in, it will only get better. To everyone who rode today, I enjoyed, nice ride.

Yeah, that was a fun ride. I was pleasantly surprised at how well the trail rode. I was expecting the normal new trail, spongy ground conditions. the tread was nice and firm. I really liked Serpantina trail. Some real flow-y lines and a few lung/leg burning sections too. You've done some great work out there Carl.

Hey Guys
There are also tons of dirt roads that connect all over the place in Blackwater. I know dirt roads are not as fun but it is fun to explore. Today 3 of us headed up dirt roads to near the Alabama line and back. It was a lot of fun. We also saw 2 other cars parked there at red rock to ride the single track carl built. Here is a link for our ride today so you get an idea of how far you can ride on these dirt roads. These dirt roads are public as well so no worries about trespassing. You do have to watch out for hunters running dogs but if you stay on the roads you should be fine.
It was about 85% dirt roads, the rest were asphalt for a total of 48.7 miles.

We all had 29ers.
Me - Fisher Superfly
Chris - Specialized Marathon 29er
Jack - Orbea Alma 29er
We all had Kenda Kharmas. Just 29ers. A cyclocross bike could be used but the mtn bikes were more fun. We also stopped at a bridge at a creek crossing and had lunch. It was a lot of fun. It would be more fun if we got a group of about 10 guys out there.

maybe i'll throw a bigger gear on the ss and join you next time.

Yeah we hope to do it again in the next week or two. I will post up on the forum when we decide to go and hopefully we can get a larger group. It was beautiful up in that area since they do the controlled burns.

Lets plan a weekend we can make this a PORC group ride.. Sounds like a blast. Or better yet do you think it would make for a good event? Maybe a Start Finish at Blackwater where we ride a loop to start and a loop to finish... Wheels are turning... 50 miles of Blackwater...
Carl, and anyone else who has put in time at BW, good job on laying out these trails. Hopefully all the tires today will be a good start to it being ridden in. If the weather is decent on x-mas eve morning, I'm going to do a loop or two and the legend of Ed B. is supposed to be there too.

Hello all, I'm a new face to the forum and the area. I'm looking forward to an opportunity to ride. If there is a ride this week or the weekend I'm in. I'll keep an eye on the threads. I don't have any knowledge of the trails in the area since I just moved here a month ago, a month too long off the saddle. I am heading to Newport, RI for a couple months of training (Navy) so if I don't catch a ride before the 1st, then I will look again in March after I return. I look forward to the opportunity to meet everyone.
