Hey guys and gals, just trying to spread the word about the great state of Mississippi's finest (OK...only) MTB marathon distance event: The Skool of Hard Nox 50 at the Noxubee Crest Trail System in the Tombigbee National Forest near Ackerman, MS on Labor Day weekend 2010. If you doubt that MS has epic singletrack, then this is the event to prove you wrong.

http://theskoolofhardnox50.com/

The website is near completion but only has a flyer at this point.

Registration is available on Active at http://www.active.com/cycling/ackerman- ... ox-50-2010

$40 bucks for 50 miles + food + swag + prizes (cash + trophy) is a steal.

There is some general info re: camping on active.com and be sure to stay tuned to the website as it will have all the goods.

Sponsor money has been more than we could have hoped for and, while the details are still in the works, we are looking at very close to 100% payback of entry fees as prize money.

We hope to see you and your friends in MS on Labor Day weekend!

Are you going to be there on May 2 for the Rockcrusher? I have been hearing some talk about the event at some of the other SCRCS races this year. It sounds like it's going to be a good event. Putting it on the calender. Any other PORCer's want to go?

I will be there for the Rockcrusher. So will two of the other 3 folks hosting the race: Harley Hollingsworth and Charlotte Fuquay. Joseph Dabbs rounds out our team but he will be in Huntsville defending his SERC title.

Look us up. Ask us questions. It's going to be a blast!

Any word on the course? I know that there was bad weather last weekend. Do we need to plan for muddy conditions?

Latest reports are that the course is fast and dry. We just haven't had much rain at all. Latest reports show a 50% chance this weekend. Given the current trail conditions they could use a little rain to knock the dust down.

I've added a new map to the course tab on the website - it shows a highlighted version of 90% of the 50 mile course.

is this course single speed friendly?

SS friendly is pretty subjective but there are plenty of folks who have ridden it SS and plan to day of the event. I have ridden it 32-18 & 19 on a 29er and have ridden with a guy who rides it 34-17 on a 26er. Plenty of climbing but some extended flat sections as well. Given the heat and length, SS will add to the challenge but is do-able.
