hi,
i am going to be vacationing down your way in a few weeks. probably sometime in the week before memorial day. and the best vacations are the ones where i get to bring my bike. i want to check out the trails in your area, but i'd like to hook up with some locals so i don't get lost and eaten by a gator or something.
also i wondered if there was anything i needed to know to be prepared for the riding in your area. i'm from ohio. i ride a full suspension. i'm a decent rider, but i'm definitely nowhere near the fastest guy out there.
any help would be appreciated. you guys have a great website here. if you are ever headed to ohio i'd be glad to return the favor.
thanx

It shouldn't be a problem for you to catch a ride with someone while you're here. There are group rides several days weekly and someone will more than likely be available anytime if you post the day/time that you want to ride on this message board. Currently, there are regular Tues. evening rides at 6:00, Wednesday evening rides at 5, 5:30, & 6, and Sunday rides at 2. Full suspension works really well here (lots of roots, no long sustained climbs). You'll see mostly FS bikes and 29ers on the trails. Other than that, practice riding in the sand. Though we have put a ton of hours in the trails and it is better than it's been in a while, there are still patchy areas of sand. You may be pleasantly surprised with what NW Florida has to offer in the way of mtn biking. I've ridden with many riders from other areas that were completely amazed that they actually had to put in a little work to get around our loop.
do you ride at mohican park? i used to live up there when i was a kid and mohican was the place we went to go camping. i've heard there are killer trails there now.

yeah, mohican is great. i am about an hour and a half from there. it's one of my favorites. they have 2 trails there. one on private property and one at the state park. they are both amazing. i will post on here when i have specifics of when i will be riding down there, but it will probably be the 22nd or 23rd. one of the wednesday evening rides may work really well. see y'all soon.

I'll be in Ohio in July for a week and a half. My wife's from a small town, hillsboro which is on US 50 about an hour east of Cincinnati. I'm guessing it would be a couple hour drive to Mohican would it be worth it? I'll try to make the ride when you come into town. I'm a little slower than some of these animals so It may be a good match.

Make sure you take him on Twister and Chute since I would say those are our most thrilling trails.

that might be a bit of a hike to mohican, but there is definitely some other cool stuff to check out in the area. actually i am thinking that there are a few good trails within about an hour or so from hillsboro. ceaser's creek, lake hope, scioto trail. i'd be glad to hit one of those with you.

So here we are, its 545 and brendan, robert and myself are unloaded and ready to go. Brendan, from ohio is arriving and so is scott r. No sooner did we all arrive, then mothernature opened her wrath upon us. She laid sideways rain, thunder and lighting. We decided the worst was past us and set out to run the gambit of the games loop. All was going well untill just before the twister loop when I ate it and stopped the whole groove. The rest of the loop went on without real injury and our guest from ohio really held up nice and quick. Not a wed nite pace but quick all the same. I lost airpressure after pate and came up the sand river back to the truck and made a beer run to have a cold one for the lads once they came in from the rest of the ride. Brendan was cool as hell and it was a pleasure to show him our trails. Looking forward to seeing you if in ohio and will definately look you up Marty

I realized when I got home that I didnt even have my biking shoes, they were sitting in my garage. I was glad I didnt get out of my car. I felt bad for Pauls Jaguar after getting a look at him.
