A weld on my chainstay

aluminum or steel? aluminum is complicated to weld. just cut out the section and replace it with bamboo.

There's a bamboo patch on Spookytrail. Looks strong.

It's aluminum ... if the bamboo doesn't work out i think i'm gonna buy steel next time.

how did it crack? how old is the frame? just wondering.

it's a 2008 cannondale caffeine. there was some chain suck & I guess that caused a little weakness. cannondale would not warranty... although every bike i've ever owned had chain suck but the frame never cracked.

Rudd Welding right up the street (10 mi rd) said they can fix it for about $15....not bad. keeping my fingers crossed the guys there seemed very confident they can make it good as new.

Took bike by Rudd Welding on 10mi- good guys...place was huge & looked like they did serious welding but even so they welded it on the spot & only charged $10....they even patched up the entire run of the chain suck damage & sanded it down to match.. One of the guys that works there use to ride back in the day. Took my son's bike there too that had a seat stay crack-- they fixed that too - $10. If you can't warranty a crack I highly recommend.
