I went for a short road ride after work. On the last 4 miles I caught up with a couple of riders. I passed them at a good clip but soon they were on my wheel. We chatted and they asked me how much further I was riding and I said 4 miles. I asked them where they were headed and they said St Augustine. Florabama for the evening. They left San Diego this spring and were at mile 2500 today. Just the two of them with a support RV. They're from England, enjoying the USA by bike. How cool!!

Extremely cool. I have seen more riders on long distance tours this year than ever before. You can almost guarantee seeing loaded bikes on 90 or 98 everyday. One day I'll make that trip.

Whats the average amount of days to make that trip?

65 days. the southern tier is shorter than the other transam routes.
i'm trying to talk barbara into doing some touring this fall. the netchez trace would be perfect but she wants to tour cuba of all places. i'm going to at least try to get her to ride her bike some before we make any plans.

we had a nice young couple for north carolina stay with us for a night a few months back. they just finished college and were headed to Hawaii via bike. of course they rode to San Diego then took a plane to Hawaii then the plane back home to NC. no bike riding experience; they just wanted to do it before "life" got in the way. they are safely back home and now getting ready to head to Africa because she will be teaching overseas and he will accompany her.
are you part of warm showers (http://www.warmshowers.org/)? i might sign up.

close. couch surfing. we had those two stay. we had a guy traveling across the USA on foot from the Netherlands (same deal-right out of college and wanted to see the US before "life" got in the way) and we had another guy stay for about a week who was skydiving in all 50 states.
