On Sunday, June 1st at 2:00 pm we will be having our 1st ever PORC "Scramble Ride". You do not need to be a PORC member to participate. This event will be similar to the Turkey Run that was held a a few months back but will require a higher degree of brain power. For those of you who aren't familiar with the Scramble Ride, here is a brief explanation of the rules:
We will have an 8 to 10 mile course that has 8 stops with a question and a right & a wrong answer at each stop. Each rider who gets the answer correctly will be directed to the next correct stop and the riders who get the answer incorrect will be directed to the wrong stop that will extend their ride. By doing this the fastest riders may get the answers wrong slowing them down and allowing the people who get it correct a chance to get to the finish faster. If you get all of the answers wrong it may turn out to be an Epic Ride of about 50 miles so try and not drink too many beers before hand. :fight:
Please meet at the Pate trail head 15 minutes early so we can review the rules. Bring chairs and some drinks to hang out after-wards and socialize. Because this is a PORC sponsored event we will not be providing alcoholic beverages. This said if you would like to enjoy a frosty cold one, be sure to bring a cooler filled with your favorite beverage and we'll be sure to "watch" it for you while you ride. Gatorade and water will be provided by the club.
Prizes will be given out for 1st through 3rd place and some additional swag for others who attend. Entry into the event is free. It would be helpful to know how many plan on attending in order to gage the supplies needed for the event so please post here if you plan on coming. Remember, the best way to insure that events like this continue to happen, is to participate. Please make an effort to come out a support your local mountain bike club.

How do you keep people from changing their answers when they kinda figure they got the wrong answer? And is this an individual or team event?

You're in Mensa you'll do fine. :D
If you get them all right you'll never hit the same spot (question) twice. If you start seeing the same spot you definitely know your getting the wrong answers.
It's an individual ride but if a few people want to team up and share some brain power go for it.

In all the B & G's, I only missed one. Last year I had a broken toe and couldn't race. It'll be fun.

Thanks for posting. It looks like we're gonna loose a few riders who will be at OM for the Bump & Grind Race but hopefully we'll still get a good turn out.
If any one else can make it please post so we can get a rough idea on how many we will have. Dave and I are hitting up bike shops tomorrow for some more swag and prizes.

1. Head west on 9mile
2. Take a right on Guidy Lane (East Hill Baptist Church)
3. Where Guidy dead ends on 10 mile, take a left
4. Take your second right which will be an on-ramp of sorts onto Pate
5. Once you see the last fenced in backyard on the right, take a right on the dirt path and you'll see the parking lot for the trailhead.

Where on the map of the trails does that put me?
Im assuming thats the small offshoot off of cambodia where you can go left or right?
i was out there today riding through cambodia, tree hugger and greenbriar and almost got run down by the same two dudes on Quads..... next time im not going to be so nice.

no need to get testy with the all caps action. I just wanted to get my bearings. Thanks for the creative input. :endo:
how long do we expect this shindig to go on for? If not too late, ill stay and help clean up. Nothin makes a bigger mess than a bunch of rowdy bikers haha

Very fun event. I had a blast! I was definitely worn out by the end after making some wrong turns though. Good times.
Though asa and I teamed up (it sure helps to have two heads instead of one on some of those questions...), he sure pulled more weight than I did. Props my man.
I vote we keep scheduling these kinds of events when all the jack-rabbits (or whatever you wanna call em) are off on trips of their own! Hah!

Thanks for putting this on Paul! Most fun I've had riding in a while. It was great that me and Galen teamed up; we travel at about the same speed, and he's fun to ride with. (plus he really saved my butt when I wanted to go back down Cambodia towards the end of the race! Thanks for that!)
The heat was pretty intense though... if we do anything else like this during the hot months, it would be really cool (both literally and figuratively) to do it at night. Imagine a Turkey run type thing.... done by bike light! :D

asa, good idea! a night ride/ race would add some more adventure to it.
if anyone is riding today would you mind grabbing the questions pinned to the trees from the race? I was gonna grab them today when riding after work but i may not be able to ride until wednesday. if you get a chance to grab them please just dispose of them as i don't need them.
thanks!

That would be water... If you put turd in a cup and put the cup in a larger bowl and cover with syran wrap and set in the sun you can extract water from your turds if your camel pack runs dry on the trail.. Myself, I think I'd rather die of thurst..

:) good answer eric. the right & wrong answers given were water and protein. about 80% of the riders guessed wrong and went with protein. if it was protein and you put it in a cup in the sun like you mentioned you would get a delicious protein bar.

Thanks Paul for organizing the Sramble. Its nice to change things up once in a while. Doing the same loop 2-3 times a week gets boring sometimes. It would be worth discussing some type of ride like this monthly, even night runs if we could get enough support. I plan joining PORC this month, want be able to make meeting on the 10th due to being out of town but will see you guys on the trail on wed. and sundays. Thanks Again and it was nice meeting everybody. Mike Elliott
