sorry i haven't been checking the forum much. still sick from the flu. we're still planning to go next week and camp out. if you can plan on bringing the wife/ girlfriend with ya'll. noland and i are bringing ours and are leaving saturday but probably not at 7:00 am. that's too damn early. :) have ya'll booked a camp site yet? last time we went they were completely full but got lucky and got one somebody cancelled on.

let me know what your plans are and if your bringing the ladies.

Melanie wants to go as long as there are other females around (that will work better for me too), so I'll plan on bring her. I'll call right now for camp sites. I'll let you know what they say.

I just called and they have plenty of campgrounds open for next weekend, but said that if we want to be safe, they take reservations Mon - Thurs. I'm going to call and reserve two, one for Melanie and I and the other for my Georgia friends that are coming.

coolio! i looked at the OM website and it said they only take reservations monday thru thursday. hopefully you'll get lucky and talk to someone who will reserve us a couple of sites today. if not they should still have some good spots on monday.

we can probably fit 6 people to a site (they are pretty big) so at most we may need 2 or 3 sites.

If at all possible I would like to come....However, I have no tent or sleeping bag. I will sleep in the dirt if need be or the back of a truck if someone has an open one.
And no my wife does not camp. It is against her beliefs...you know the type.:cool:
I am hoping I will have a job within the next week....if not, then I don't see why I couldn't go.
I will post again mid-week and let everyone know my intentions.

Looking like a day trip for me. I was surprised I could make it in the first place so I hope to make the most of it.

I called today about reserving the camp site. He's what I found out:
1) They will only sell the group site to church groups and boy scouts because everyone else tears them up.
2) They charge a two night, non-refundable deposit for reserving camp sites.
3) They currently have over 40 camp sites available for this weekend.

So, I'm not reserving a camp site since it looks like there will be plenty to choose from this weekend.

maybe. barbara isn't going. the rack holds 2 bikes but with a little disassembly we could pack 2 bikes inside with room for 4 people. splitting gas 4 ways will be nice.

Rob, I have a tent,big one, sleeping bag and tarp to set up on if you need to borrow it. When Mark and I went up for the wheelhopper hash we used it for its first camp out. Call me if you wanna borrow it, Marty

if i'm driving, i'd like to be on the road by 7:00. dustin, nate, david (?) and i are day tripping. where's a good meeting spot? bagelheads on 9 mile? i'd like to be riding by noon.

I may run into a bit of a logistical problem w/ bringing Melanie (not that you guys should be concerned with that) and Paul, Nolan, and wives get there later in the day. It's going to be tough for me to drag her 3 1/2 hrs to B'ham, then tell her she's got to wait at the car for 2-2 1/2 hrs while I go ride w/ you guys. So, long story short, I may not be able to make the early lap w/ you guys since I'll probably need to ride with her. BTW, my plan w/ her was to get there a bit earlier than everyone else and set up the camp site, then drive over to park at the lake area and ride the trail between there and the north trailhead/campground area. That way I'm cutting off the 3 mile climb and Johnson Mtn. At that point, either we could arrange it so that I can hop on with you guys for a 2nd loop (if you park at the north trailhead) or I'll just finish the loop by myself to get my truck and drive back to the camp site.

we probably wont head out until around 9:00 and will be setting up camp when we arrive as well. i'd like to ride as a big group but won't be able to leave at 7:00. this is suuposed to be sort of a vacation for us and the wife won't go for getting up at 6:00 am on her vacation. i figured it won't get dark until 7:00 pm so we'll have plenty of day to ride.

i'm hoping to be good for 2 laps with maybe a lunch break in between. we day trippers could bust out an early lap, grab lunch and then do a porc lap around 2:00? that would get us on the road around 5:00 and home around 9:00. do you guys want to meet at the south parking area at 2:00?

It looks like Melanie and I will come up later too and be ready for the 2:00 group ride. Meeting at the south trailhead would work fine. That way the girls can exit at the north trailhead and ride to the campground and the guys can finish up the rest of the ride back to the trucks.

Paul and I were discussing a day trip to Swayback on Sunday or camping at Chicky this weekend. Do either of those interest you guys?

I just somehow got out of a Saturday at work and was/am (not throwing in the towel yet) looking forward to a couple loops at OM and some fine mediterranean food after from the Purple Onion.........Ohhh so good!!!!

Windy...variable clouds with thunderstorms, especially in the morning. A few storms may be severe. High 76F. Winds SW at 25 to 35 mph. Chance of rain 60%.

Dave, like you mentioned it may be too damn windy to try and camp. Should we change it to a day trip to Chicky either Saturday after 12:00 or Sunday in the morning?

tallahassee? i have'nt hit tom brown in years and i've heard good things about cadillac trail. the weather look great for saturday.

as far as we day trippers, i don't want to drive 4 hours in the rain to get to om and find out the trails are closed or it's to miserable to ride. swayback will be just as sloppy. if it rains here tonight or tomorrow, chickasawbogue is going to be sloppy for riding. i'm all for going to tallahassee tomorrow. we could also postpone until the weekend after next to do om. we could do both. let me know before i have too many beers.

Yeah, we went over there for a loop. Had great weather, they had the trails in great condition after their race last weekend. We need to try to reschedule this OM camping trip. Any suggestions?
