So, I found this on the eBayz: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230297426375&indexURL=0&photoDisplayType=2#ebayphotohosting

I know Mark had one of these in the store, and this auction looks to be a killer deal! $635 with free shipping!? What do you guys think about Origin 8?

I still love my 08 fisher cobia and have nothing to complain about it, but I have been wanting to give an SS a shot. However, I don't have the balls to just convert my Cobia over to SS without having some sort of geared standby?

Man up lad, nothing to it but to do it, and you dont get the service which is what you pay for when you buy a bike from the bike shop

Very true... but now I am thinking instead of having 2 29er hardtails, I could buy gtkiller's Anthem 2 frame and make it my FS 26" project... He posted that he would sell the frame locally for $350? Then I could convert my Cobia over to SS... thoughts?

Mark has a universal dropout than he can get that makes your bike a quick change from a SS back to geared.. Try that on your Cobia first.. But then again, it makes no sense to me.. Just pick one gear and run in it.. But I know what bikeitis is like, im looking into a second bike as well... Buy that frame!!!

I thought about the whole dropout deal but thought of these problems:

1. Chain wear and cassette wear (pros/cons ?)
2. I don't have a cassette tool nor know how to use one
3. I can't install the derailleur on my own and even if I could, this would be a huge time sink.

However, having a decent FS 26" and 29er SS, I would have a nice well-rounded set of choices depending on how I wanted to ride for the day, or make a trip with you guys one weekend.

Thoughts?

Thats what im aiming at.. Im looking into a 29 hardtail and keeping my FS for places like OM, Swayback ect.. That Giant frame is a killer deal, and you can rob all the components from your GF to run it geared and put both bikes together pretty inexpensive.. I may have a fork and wheelset for you if I end up getting the 26 hardtail im looking at. I will have a 2005 Reba 100 mm, and some Mavics with DT 240's..

gtkiller msg'd me and told me that he has one offer that he countered on and he was waiting back for a response. If it falls through he said he would cancel the auction and sell it to me for $350

Yeah, but then he would get caught with the Ebay fees.

make an offer...then he can file for non-paying bidder as a mutual agreement...you don't get a mark for not paying...and he will get a refund of ebay fees.

Ebay.. It was a steal pretty much.. The guy had a messed up leg from iraq and its never been off road.. 2008 only thing I need to get rolling is breaks and wheelset. Will have to upgrade some of the components, but Should be rolling soon..

Galen, you can convert your cobia to a SS, for about 25 bucks and in about 30min. much more cost effective than paying $650 for a SS. I got all the tools you need. or we can take it to TS and do it in about 15min.

Sounds great Nate! I definitely like that idea! I just need to get my geared side of things taken care of and then I'll take you up on that.

I bought an Origin 8 from mark last month. He gave me the PORC discount. Im very happy with the bike for the money. I think the frame is upgrade worthy. I'd like to buy some lighter wheels, and a fork, but even bone stock Im having a blast.

No, Ebay wouldnt let me list them. I may not have anything but two bikes and a TV by the time I finish building this one..
