I ride TL, but not on Sundays. I keep the peace by running with my non-cycling boyfriend that morning : ) We'll keep an eye out for the truck when out there. I drive a big blue F250 and ride a red Anthem 2, so I am relatively easy to spot as well.

Not much riding in Niceville, but we did put together a decent trail for the Adventure Race. There is a map on the race site. The single track crosses the clay road out there. If you do that, you are going into a restricted area. I'd avoid doing that as the people that get caught may very well blow it for all of us. Eglin can always tell us that we cannot ride there at all!!!

James, be sure you go by Jackson Guard in Niceville and get a range pass. They are open M-F. If you're caught illegally on the Eglin reservation, you're in serious trouble.

Good point. The pass is cheap and they do check. If you ride at night, you have to be out of there by one hour after sunset. That is also pretty strictly enforced.

The first time you get a pass you have to watch a somewhat tedious video that tells you not to play with any bombs you may find on the range.

You need a pass for the Niceville loop as well.

are you talking about the clay road on the ymca map? i have been out to TL camping, i thought i was nice and quiet we were the only ones there and then at 6:00 am there was about 200 runners going righ infront of my tent! i saw on the map of TL that if you go parralell to the road you go over the creek and then left. is this a legal area?

It's been years since I've ridden there, but it use to be well maintained. Sand was only an issue in a couple of spots. It's not as hard a course as UWF, but it was fun. I dislocated my left shoulder there. Damn trees.

As far as the tedious video, tell them you have seen it before. They are real strict on it. It had been a year or two between the two passes that I had and I just told them the second time around that I had seen it the first time. My first pass was actually picked up by someone else. As long as someone has the needed information they can pick up you pass for you.

No Nate.
TL is actually fairly nice. A good bit of it is in the woods with good ground cover. There is some pretty bad sand in areas, especially on the side of the creek where the lake resides. However, the stuff behind the lake like Snake Charmer is quite nice.

Note that Scott has added a Timberlake Trails section to the forum. I think this will be great to have. Before I started riding off road in 2005, there was a Timberlake Trails Assoc webiste. It had a forum which was used to post notices about trail maintenance scheduled, needed, done, partially complete etc.... Alas, the admin moved and the site is no longer maintained.
