Default Wanted: Repaired bridge for Gravel Road bypass

Went over the stream today without a bridge. The old one has been pulled to the side after what appears to have been a couple more broken boards. We can put another one in its place right? Just like the one on Cambodia? I was trying to guess the length of a bridge needed to be about 8ft?

Who knows the specs and could help with this? I think partial assembly in the parking lot of Bldg 13 and hoofing it out from the boardwalk would be the way to go right?

Also, this weekend there were a LOT of ROTC people out there running around. One of the organizers, Adult, had a truck right at the J pipes top of Greenbrier. How did he get it in there? Because if he can get a truck in there without too much trouble the bridge could be completely assembled and just dragged into place.

I have acquired some 12" sch80 PVC pipe and will be installing a culvert there instead of another bridge. Not sure when I can get out to complete this, but its high on my agenda. Should be an easy fix and more sustainable.

Let me know when you get your plan drawn up so that it can be presented to the university.

I thought we had approval to proceed with repairs in the name of safety. I didn't realize we needed approval and drawings on this to submit. Do we have approval to repair the bridge versus changing it to a culvert?

So we are good to repair the existing bridge, but not ok to remove the damaged bridge and replace it with a culvert. Not trying to be difficult, just trying to be clear.

Myca, I'm just trying to get clarification so that we don't make a mistake with the U. They are making progress on the partnership agreement we are working on with them. I guess I misunderstood what we could and couldn't do and just wanted to be clear.

Repairing that bridge is one thing. Yes, I have seen the current condition of that bridge and I know that it got moved to the side. Doing a swap to a culvert without any sort of permission could get us buried under Thompson Bayou. I actually like the idea of a culvert. It's what is done to the Gulf Power dirt road where it crosses that same steam. I saw something on the forestry website that gave recommendations for it. I'll check that next week to see if I can find it. Having a stream crossing and wet shoes is not high on my to-do list...

this is going to get ridiculous. Where is the MOU so we can knock this nonsense off? Making changes on the side of sustainability and safety I believe would be welcomed. We don't have any sort of template or example to submit drawings with, an agreed upon method of submitting said plans, nor a proposed time frame for the turn around.

We need that MOU so the club can operate with some direction more effectively without a mother-may-I for every nail used. Procedures are one thing but without some trust and understanding progress will be abandoned and riders and builders alike will lose interest. I'd like to point out the few number of people who do participate in maintenance may decide the fight isn't worth it and move on. Not a threat, but a concern of mine. Thousands of people cross these trails each month by the work of a few. The university should be coming to us to keep them open instead of visa versa. We've had elders at the university longer than most of the employees of said organization.

Let's make this fun again remember! I wasn't able to be at last months meeting but I do plan on participating in as many future ones as I can to help however I can.
