On the one hand, we missed out on the community and frequent snacking aspects of the ride, but we did get to rip into that one stop while they were still fully provisioned. It's a definite trade off. Ideally, the organizers will have more food next year so everyone, regardless of pacing, gets the same experience at each stop.

The key in centuries is usually to skip the first few stops and be the first to the farthest ones, which tend to be stocked with more and more exotic eats.

I agree with the above comment that the post-ride meal could have been better. Although there was plenty of it, that diet pepsi was the only thing I found appealing. A healthier option than sugared meat with junkfood would have served the minority vegetarian and health-oriented riders.

Make sure to send comments (both positive and negative) or suggestions for improvement to Big Brothers/Big Sisters. As many have noted this was their first year to take "lead" on the event. I think the food issue could easily be addressed by raising the ride fee by $5 or $10. This is by far one of the least expensive organized centuries out there. I think next year will be even better!

speaking of it being an organized century - the distance was under. i ended with 155.3k which is about 96.5 miles. a few other people i have talked to said their mileage was under as well.

had a good 3 hour recovery ride today too. the legs felt good.

As i mentioned in an earlier post, Yes the mileage us short of 100. I haven't found a convenient and safe way to add the last 3 miles. I've got a year to think about it. Options include once around the block of Winn Dixie. A right turn on the return to the trail and then turn around. I have a road that I'd like to scout but it would mean losing the Horse Stables.

the mileage isn't a real big deal, i don't think. just wanted to mention it.....
the big deal is spending a portion of the day riding good roads in great weather with a great community of people while being supported by a super group of volunteers - all to benefit a good cause.

that is why I turned around and went back and ended up with 101.5. there was no way I was going to finish under 100.

Carlos, I did that last year too. Now 100 is just a number. Congrats on getting it done, it's an accomplishment to be sure.

Default Automatic Extra Miles

Ride to the ride, save gas, ensure you get 100, and get a proper warmup before the stampede!

I ended the day with about 111, ~2 of which a involved death-defying portage of a dart board I won.

That dart board probably weighed three times as much as my bike and a frighteningly large percentage of my weight. It was an impressively substantial thing, and I thought the prizes were very appealing. The guy who won 10 Chik-fil-a sandwiches did fairly well. I do hope he orders them grilled, not fried.

You'll have to pick an alternate post-ride location. The poor repressed people of Milton do not allow beer at the community center.

Post-ride tent at Truly Spokin Milton next year???

Default A Nice Idea, but...

... that tent would get swamped by non-customers and probably by non-riders. The shop is too prominent on the corner, and people would be walking off the street looking for freebees.
