Default Ride to New Orleans

Just checking to see if there would be much or interest from you guys to do a cycling road trip from here to New Orleans. It's about 190 miles and I figure it would be a good 3 day trip over. Start on a Wednesday so we could get there on Friday night and then play in New Orleans until Sunday and then have an auto pickup for the ride back.

I'm sure a big part of it would be on hwy 90 with some scenic detours. I drove hwy 90 back from New Orleans a few weeks ago and alot of it was pretty cool. I also spent 3 days riding around the city and barely scratched the surface. Rode quite a bit in the French Quarter, some in the Garden District and a little in the downtown/ buisness area. Great city to bike and play/party in by bike.

I'd entertain the idea. Was in Hattiesburg, MS over the holidays visiting family and thought about riding there. Would definitely want to do it with a good sized group though for visibility's sake. I had also thought about riding by myself to Panama City. Melanie's family lives there and I think it would be okay to do that one solo.

Hwy 98 scares me a bit just past San Destin. There's no shoulder and the tourist traffic is tremendous. I'd love to do that ride too, but timing would be very important.

The date I posted was based on your schedule Chris. It would be cool if we could get say maybe 4 or more to go.

Dave, Melanie could meet you/us over there Friday night or Saturday to ride around the town too. Jennifer is most likely going to meet us over there too. She loved riding around the city during the day and night.

Something I would think about. I have family there. WFW used to do it in 2days. First day to Biloxi, second day to NO. Might be more fun in 3 if lodging can be found. Safety is another concern in NO esp. Going through NO east. Rough areas since Katrina.

yes, get with the WFW for any updates. I'm not sure when they did their last ride there. maybe a couple of years ago.

Rough... ....Better not have quick releases on your wheels, they will have them of so fast, you'll be riding one minute and standing there the next. A guy I work with used to be a Marine, after the Gulf War, he became a cop with NOPD, didn't take long after Katina to say "F**K That, I have to patrol where?" Just be sure you look at your route on the eastside. If you'll get closer to reality, I call make a few phone calls on what's a safer way into town.
P.S. Who's got a gun?

That probably wouldn't be a bad idea if it can be done legally...

I don't know if anyone has their CC premit to pack heat, but I think that LA and FL honor each other's laws. I can check, just about everyone that works for use in LA is carrying.
