Eventually, PORC is going to have to speak against this stuff.

“If you have this system, you can stay with the group, but nobody hears it, nobody sees it, nobody knows about it,” he said of the devices, which cost 10,000 to 25,000 euros (about $11,300 to about $28,200), depending on features.

I don't think we'll see too many of these on the trail anytime soon.

I agree that motor doping could be a serious problem in the pro peleton, but read this and it may change your perspective a bit on e-assist bikes in general.

In the right circumstances, these bikes could absolutely enhance the riding experience instead of taking away from it.
I just got done with a 5-day trip to NC where we had to schedule in a few 10-15 mi days just because the legs were wary. I would've loved to do 35 miles a day and explore more, but on the brutal Pisgah trails it just wasn't an option.
Also, I would love to ride with my dad or brother. They don't enjoy riding with me because they feel like they're constantly holding me up. With this bike, the playing field would be more leveled and we would all enjoy the ride more.

That is entirely to much reading but I did skim through a big portion of it.

What I foresee is excessive trail wear and abuse. It's not about the current bikes like described. My anti-e-bike crusade is for the future. Where will this technology be in 5-10 years? Where will e-dirt bike technology be in that same time frame?

The extra mileage and slightly higher speeds are going to do a toll on our trails. We have a hard enough time getting people to do trail maintenance. This will be rough for when more TM is needed.

maybe the new ebikes will have anti-lock brakes that don't skid. could be a trail wear trade-off

I know someone that has an e-hub motorin thing for their wife's bike. untrained eye may not even notice it but any of us would see that the hub was unusually big.

He said when you engage the motor it feels like there's a tail wind... but they certainly won't do the riding for you.... yet.
