Default Take A Kid Mountain Biking - June 11th, 2016

Basically here are some notes, wants, needs and other high level stuff that can be used to put an actual plan together.

Event: TAKMB
When: June 11th 10a-2p
Where: UWF Trails, Pate Trailhead
Requirements: Fat Tire Bike, Helmet, ready to have fun

Promoting:
Flyers in all bike shops. Maybe Running Wild as well? Other places???
Facebook Event Planner, shared in groups and shop pages
Am I missing any other opportunities???

Release Forms: needed or not? If so, who would have them?

Trail Marking: Arrows and tape, need to have a beginner trail marked. Probably an intermediate as well.

Beginner Trail: Games Loop - Pink trail (concerned with length, may need to determine a shorter easier trail for the youngest and least experienced)

Intermediate Trail: Games Loop - Purple trail; with some cut out to keep length enjoyable.

Longer rides are always welcome and we will provide ride leaders.

Volunteers:
Registration/Waivers
Course Marking
Ride Leaders
Skills / Rules of the Trail Instructors
Cook / Grillmaster

Food:
Hot Dogs
Buns
Condiments (K, M, R)
Chips
Water (5g jug)
Gatorade (5g jug)
Grill

10-10:30 - Registration
10:30-11 - Basic Safety and Rules of the trail
11-12 - Trail Rides
12-1 - Lunch / Skills Clinic
1-2 - Trail Rides

Some things I have seen that make this day more successful:

- Offer basic tune-ups
- Offer basic maintenace clinic
- have demo bikes for kids available
- log-overs and other obstacles in the park lot for practice

Does anyone have a pop-up canopy, or 2, that can be borrowed?

Would anyone else like to join me in coordinating this?

Candid feedback, suggestions, what did I miss???

Thanks! I want to start getting the word out this weekend!!!

Thanks Brett.

I don't know about the tune ups, bike maintenance, but I'm sure the lbs's may come thru with some demo bikes.

The cooking, marking, and such shouldn't be a problem. I am heading in from offshore tomorrow and will look further into then.

Looking good Brett! If you have the means or know someone, throw a simple flyer together to hang at the local shops, trail heads and FB to help with promotion.

Brett, take a look at this link. It says 11th or 18th. Please go ahead and narrow this down to the 11th.

I looked on the IMBA website for a release form specifically for this event and it does not exist. PORC does have a standard release form that I will dig up. It will need to be changed to add IMBA onto it. Not a big deal at all. This is basically just a group ride/non-competitive event so nothing fancy is needed.

The flyers/Posters were distributed to all of the local shops last week. We are 1 month away. This should be a rather simple, but great and fun event. I am hoping for around 20 kids, but who really knows. At this time, according to the Facebook invite, there 13 people coming and 25 interested. Please talk this up. There will be trails for all levels of riders and rides will be led by folks that know the trails.

Volunteers needed:
Registration
trail marking/simple maintenance (removal of sticks and face slappers for beginner trails)
Cook - hot dogs
Ride Leaders

Here are something else to make this more appealing to kids and families...

Goodie Bags - I am waiting on a reply from IMBA on what they will provide.

Other items:
Same as in first post...
Also, 3 pop-up canopies. Registration, grills, other area for relaxing...

Please feel free to chime in!!! Let's make this great!

1. who has the club grill?
2. the club should buy a couple of pop-up canopies
3. do we have club Igloo drink coolers/jugs or do we need to buy some? we need to stock up on club inventory for these events
4. what will be the designated loop for this ride?
5. do we have any bike support coming for some of the ideas you threw out in your other post?

No other post other than the Facebook event. This will be updated as things are progressed.

I have the grill and I second the need for supplies to put on these types of events.

Another email sent to the bike shops requesting:

- Helmets. Obviously, these are a must on the trails. I will also be informing everyone at registration that helmets are to be worn at all times the bike is being ridden.
- Bikes. If possible, this could be a great opportunity to get kids on good bikes. There may be some that show up on BMX type, and they can ride, but others may show up with no bike or something not fit for the trail. The last thing I want to do is turn a kid away that wants to ride.
- Pop-Up Canopy. I am hoping that it is a beautiful day. That will mean we need shade. 3 or 4 should be plenty, please let me know who might be able to help us with those.
- Goodie Bag Items. Bags, water bottles, t-shirts, additional energy bars and stickers (kids love stickers)

Will reach out via phone tomorrow.

3. I have an igloo drink cooler that can be used
4. the Games side. Mostly purple with bail-outs as needed. Also thought about creating some very basic beginner trails in the woods right next to the parking lot. for those not ready for a 3 or so mile ride. Thoughts? If we have some more advanced riders, then we can organize a ride and utilize any of the trails.
5. no commitment for bike support. Any good mechanics that can join would be welcome. I have a stand and basic tools, but lack the skills required to use them haha
