Default slight slack when I peddle

Ican't help but notice there is a little slack when I'm peddling. If I'm riding there feel like a half inch slack in the crank, chain, or gear.If I'm very consistent then I feel nothing but a lazy peddling speed there is a gap in the drive. Just wanted to ask where to start looking for the problem. It feels like an automatic transmission slipping in a car..hesitates for a split second then grabs..3 piece crank ..chain is not slipping...any ideas?

sounds like the free-wheel in the back. if so it will get much worse quickly- you may be able to get a full crank rotation before it grabs then it will not grab at all.

Its te engagement of your rear hub.. The more expensive the hub the better the engagement.. Its normal.. Chris King, Iindustry Nine, ect all have instant engagement, but at the price for about $1000 for a wheelset...

it sounds like the pawls are sticking. it probably just needs rebuilding.
I am a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma, wrapped in bacon.

l think Carl's on the money... even a high-engagement King or Hadley will be slow to hook up if the grease breaks down and enough water/gunk bypasses the seals.

Your hub internals probably just need to be cleaned/re-lubed/repacked. A local shop can get you back on the road quickly.
