Friday, 3/17/2017, we received some great news from UWF. The MOU between PORC and UWF has been approved by the UWF Legal Department and is currently being reviewed and then signed by IMBA. After they have signed, Dave McDuff (PORC President) will sign and the agreement will be executed.

Why is this important?
The MOU is an agreement between UWF and PORC that officially recognizes and sanctions PORC as the UWF Trail “stewards.”

Why did PORC want this?
Our goal at PORC is to have an “epic” trail system at UWF for generations to come. This agreement is a step toward making that happen and gives us a "seat at the table" when it comes to planning, enhancement, and protection of the trails.

Why did UWF want this?
UWF is the landowner. UWF wants to know what is happening on their land. Fair enough... and with that said, the leaders of the UWF Recreation and Sports Services department are trail users, as well, and they want what we want – Epic UWF Trails that are around for generations. They know that if we can keep the trails maintained, work with them on major enhancements and work to involve current students in trail activities (rides, demo days, races, etc.), that they will become part of the UWF culture – and that makes them hard to pave over with a parking lot.

Why did UWF pick PORC?
UWF leaders recognize PORC, with it’s legit IMBA/SORBA connections, as an organization that can help them achieve their goals for the trails. Furthermore, UWF leaders recognize that PORC, for a few decades, has been dedicated to the maintenance and preservation of the trails – in other words, the work of PORC is duly recognized and appreciated.

Who is leading this effort for PORC?
Using the momentum generated by former President Chris Maloney, Ant Aukamp and Sean Boulanger are the club's points of contact with UWF.

By coming to this agreement, we have made the trails official and we are officially the stewards of those trails. It is our desire to display and maintain the best possible trail system. One that will become integral to the culture of UWF, student life at UWF, and to the Pensacola community as well. In a nutshell, our general Trail Maintenance (or TM) can be performed without case by case approval. As for larger, more ambitious projects, we will work with UWF to plan for these enhancements, and perhaps even get funding.

We will be meeting with UWF in the very near future and will hold a member meeting to discuss this and other PORC happenings.

This is really great news for everyone. This is why PORC was created 17 years ago. It's great to see it come full circle. I hope everyone will enjoy these trails for years to come.
Note to self, Ride more and complain less!
